Line 19

Line 19 is 22.4 km in length and has 10 stations, and is fully underground. The line was envisioned as a major relief line for the overcrowded Line 4 and more direct link to the Beijing Financial Street commercial area. The line opened on 31 December 2021, with four infill stations opening on 30 July 2022.

Compared with most of the other urban lines which have an average distance of 1.2 km and a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour, the average distance between stations of Line 19 is 2.3 kilometers, and the maximum running speed can reach 100 kilometers per hour.

Phase 2 of Line 19, which is under planning, consists of a northern extension to Changping District. Additionally, there will be a branch line of the northern extension, which will serve the new Qinghe railway station, a station on the Beijing–Zhangjiakou intercity railway.

The line uses 8-car type A rolling stock, and the maximum passenger capacity of the train is 3,456 people per train. The train has been nicknamed "Killer Whale". The seats in the middle two carriages are different from ordinary subway seats, using horizontal seats similar to those of high-speed trains, with only one seat in each row. This arrangement takes into account the fact that Line 19 is connected to the Daxing Airport Line. The higher operating speed has also necessitated a pneumatic auxiliary lock to the passenger compartment door system to increase the airtightness, in order to reduce ear discomfort caused by the change of external air pressure during high-speed driving.

As the only vehicle parking and maintenance base for the first phase of Metro Line 19, the Xingong Depot covers an area of 300,500 square meters, with 19 individual buildings, a total construction area of 268,000 square meters, and parking for 26 trains.

Line 19 highlights an overall design concept of reflecting the essence of Beijing's tradition and modernity. The station halls, transfer passages and platform stairs and escalators all tie in with one another.
