National Library station features a double-island interchange layout, with Line 4 trains on the outside and Line 9 trains on the inside, which allows most riders to change lines simply by crossing the platform, instead of walking between levels. The platform for Line 16 will be built under the Line 4 and Line 9 platform.
In the foyer is a stone sculpture referencing the library and its books, which is called "The Four Treasures of the Evolution of Books". The mural highlights the four treasures of the country: ‘Chinese Translation of Sutra Stored at Zhaocheng County’, ‘Dunhuang Manuscripts’, ‘Yongle Canon’ and ‘Kushu’.
The binding of ancient Chinese books has a history spanning more than 3,000 years, including paperbacks, silk books, scroll books, thread books and the like. The change in binding was down to developments in technology, the abundance of new materials, and changes infashion.
The stone relief moves forward from the books themselves into modern-day technologies such as internet and eBooks, to name but two.
