LINE 5 – Zhangzizhonglu (张自忠路)

Zhangzizhonglu (Zhang Zizhong Street) station, named after a World War II general, is the only station on the entire Beijing Subway named after a person.


Zhang Zizhong was a general of the Chinese National Revolutionary Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Born in Linqing, Shandong, he was the highest-ranked officer and the only Army group commander of the NRA to die in the war.

His mausoleum is situated in Beibei District, Chongqing. As well as Beijing, there have been roads named after him in Shanghai and Tianjin.
