Gaomidian literally translates as ‘Tall rice shop’.
But this work, called ‘Auspicious Clouds’, by Shou Yi, is based on a theme of national integration, showing the integration of the Mongolian, Manchu, and Han people who sing and dance, and express the meaning of national unity. This was regarded as the cornerstone of prosperity in the Chinese empire during the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.
This forged copper relief combines jumping deer, fish, warriors on horseback, eagles soaring in the clouds, swans, bullocks and clouds... and that’s just for starters.
