LINE 7 Caishikou (菜市口)

Caishikou was famous for its Execution Grounds which were located at the crossroads of Xuanwumen Outer Street and Luomashi Street.

Executions were usually carried out at 11:30 in the morning. The condemned would be taken by cart to the execution grounds and offered a bowl of rice wine. (The bowl would be smashed after it was used.)

Among famous people to be executed here was Zhu Yousong, the first emperor of the Southern Ming Dynasty.
