Beijing's Subway Art: LINE 7 Dajiaoting (大郊亭)

A thousand years ago this area was made up of lakes and rivers.

The royal familiy used to hunt here and the pavilion was somewhere they could rest after decimating the local wildlife.

The station has calligraphy, just as in the majority of the other Line 7 stations...

Unusually for this line the fretwork patterns at the bottom of the escalators...

are very different from the decorative stone panels...

though they are reflected in the patterns at the top of the support columns...

though again they bear little relationship to the patterns found on the platform seating...
