LINE 7 Hufangqiao (虎坊桥)

At Hufangqiao Station, the columns are decorated with Peking Opera masks and the mural – by Sun Tao – depicts the Beijing Huguang Guildhall, which is a renowned Peking opera theatre.

Built in 1807, and at the height of its glory, the Huguang Guildhall was known as one of the Four Great Theatres in Beijing. Many famous past and present opera performers have appeared here.

On August 25, 1912, the Chinese Nationalist Party was founded at the Guildhall to contest the first national elections of the Republic of China, though it was dissolved the following year before being reformed in 1919.

Nowadays it is the home of a museum dedicated to Peking Opera, though if the truth be known the museum is highly disappointing and hardly worth the effort of visiting...

Here's the calligraphy displayed in the platform areas...

A simple fretwork panel graces the entrance to the escalator runs...

but the pattern is not replicated in the lighting attached to the pillars...
