LINE 8 – Tian Qiao (天桥站)

The theme of the mural on the west side wall of the station main hall is "Emperor's Sacrifice to the Sky". In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, when the emperor went to the Temple of Heaven to worship, he would ride on an elephant trellis to pass the Tianqiao, or Bridge to the heavens. The mural is 20.7 metres long and 3.2 metres high. The masonry bridge in the painting is the "sky bridge" that the emperor had to pass by. It was about 200 metres away from the current station, but was completely demolished some eight decades ago.

This sky bridge is alluded to in the overall design of the platform ceiling...

The theme on the east side is "Land Bridge Relics", which is 32.7 metres long and is divided into three parts showing the culture of the area. There are people juggling and and practising folk arts.

There are also businesses featuring all kinds of snacks and groceries in the Tianqiao area, which in its day was highly prosperous.
