LINE 10 – Gongzhufen (公主坟)

Gongzhufen’s close proximity to Yuyuantan Park no doubt explains the affinity for leaves and butterflies, based on the concept theme of "life blooms", gracing the wall of one of the through-passageways leading to Line 1. The interior color is light blue-gray, and the ceiling and wall decorations are decorated with plant leaf patterns.

"Butterfly Shuangfei" has a white background with light and agile butterflies, which are mainly in shadowed ink, with only a few colourful butterflies standing out. But ‘Flying Butterflies’ is also a metaphor for the lives of women...

... Whilst if you take another exit from the platform towards Line 1, you get to see this splendid mural which is simply eye catching. ‘Birds toward the Phoenix’ is another allegory about women (traditionally emperors were thought of as dragons, while their first ladies were phoenixes) and it really just stops you in your tracks.

One of the best pieces of art on the entire Beijing subway system, in my view.
