The project name for this station was originally "Kenan Road" , though it was renamed "Zhichunli" before opening to passengers after the Zhichunli residential community. It is at the very heart of Beijing’s ‘Silicon Valley’; and this mural depicting electronic circuit boards is the longest in the entire subway system.
It’s called ‘Vertical and Horizontal’ and was put together by the Academy of Fine Arts at Tsinghua University.
Apparently the idea is that the vertical and horizontal parts of the circuit board allude to the rise and fall of buildings in the streets of Beijing’s ‘Silicon Valley’ area of Zhongguancun. Whether or not the passers by understand that is hard to gauge, but its in-your-face presence is certainly noticed by everyone passing through the station.
