LINE 6 – Beihai North (北海北)

Built during the Liao Dynasty in the 11th century, Beihai Park (literally ‘Northern Sea’ Park), has the longest history of existing imperial gardens. Since 1925, the place has been open to the public. Here you can find pools, temples, palaces, bridges and corridors. It covers an area of around 700,000 square metres, more than half of which is water.

Featured in the station is a mural called ‘Northern Sea (Beihai) Park Garden’ by Sun Dao, Tian Roux, Wang Changxing and Li Qing that depicts the imperial gardens at the height of their splendour. The whole mural is inlaid with marble, with more than 60 kinds of stone materials - including Italian sapphire, Burmese jade - from more than a dozen countries including Italy, Iran, Spain, Afghanistan and so on.
