Chegongzhuang station is themed with drama. That’s not really surprising as just outside Exit C is the Mei Lanfang Peking Opera Theatre. (Just inside this theatre is a painting of Yue Fei, the legendary Song Dynasty general whose betrayal and murder inspired many an opera.)
This fretworked stainless steel mural is by Feng Ye.
‘The Quintessence of Colour’ is an art pottery board mural reflecting many of the clothes worn in the performances of Peking Opera at the Mei Lan Fang theatre across the street. The designer - Du Fei - said that even if passengers passed by in a hurry, they could inadvertently enjoy the cultural atmosphere brought by the quintessence of art.
