LINE 6 – Jintailu (金台路)

The large mural in the East Station Hall, "Golden Terraces Seeking Talents", tells the story of King Yanzhao's construction of a high platform and setting up his daughters on top of it to attract the world's wisest men. A thousand years ago, during the Yan dynasty, so the story goes, the emperor built a golden stage to attract local talent in order to seek advice from the very best of the best as to how to train the army to revive his dynasty.

It was designed by Zhao Jian Feng and Li Jing, who explained that a lot of materials were used in this work, including 600 egg and duck shells which were ground into the paint, thereby realizing the uneven texture of the mural.

And this glass engraving by Niu Tao is called ‘Jintai Sunset’, which is composed of pieces of special-shaped stained glass and LED lighting. The picture looks from the west end of Jintai Road towards the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the ancient capital of Beijing, and the tall city walls and royal buildings.

Unfortunately the LEDs that are meant to illuminate it from behind are often switched off, which means that many people don’t even notice it as they head for the escalator down to the platform.
