LINE 6 – Tian Cun (田村)

The name of this station was originally Jingxi Coal Road Station! The station got its name, because the local village, Tiancun, was originally called the "bitter village".  It is said that Emperor Qianlong passed by here during a private visit, and felt that the name "Bitter Village" was indecent and changed it to "Tiancun".

Apparently, the golden coffins of the emperors and queens were parked here during the Qing Dynasty. The village name was commonly called "Crying Village", but a later homophone was "Bitter Village", and later it was renamed "Sweet Village". During the Qianlong period, Tiancun was an important road station on the ancient coal road in West Beijing. Historically, the coal and lime produced in Mentougou, Xishan, were fed into the capital by camels.

At the end of the east lobby of Tiancun Station there is a mural titled "White Night Deer". It is made from cut metal which has been spray painted; and it is 23 metres in length.

On the platform itself are mosaics entitled "Pick up the Silk Road" by Zhang Peng. They refer to the initiatives by President Xi Jinping to build a “New Silk Road Economic Belt” and a “21st Century Maritime road".

Above the stairs going down to the platform is another mural, 8.5m × 4.2m, called "Fucheng Peach Blossom" by Zhang Peng.

It is a painted glass carving and refers to the fact that west of Beijing was where coal was produced at Mentougou Coal Mine. The picture depicts the ancients using camels, mules and horses to carry coal to the pier on the Yongding River where it was shipped eastwards.
